KABUL, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- A number of NATO-led coalition forces and Afghan civilians were wounded after a suicide car bombing struck a NATO convoy in Bagram, eastern Afghanistan, on Monday, the coalition forces confirmed.

The incident occurred at around midday near the village of Qaleh-ye Musa Bala, Bagram, the forces said in a statement.

Bagram Airfield is located in eastern Parwan province, some 50 km north of Kabul and it has been serving as the main U.S. and NATO military base within the past 16 years.

"The wounded service members were taken to the Bagram Airfield hospital for treatment. None of the injuries are considered life threatening," the statement reads.

The Afghan civilians were evacuated to a local hospital and their condition is unknown at this time, it noted.

Taliban insurgents have claimed responsibility for it.

On Sept. 6, a Taliban suicide bomber attacked an entry gate of the Bagram Airfield, injuring three foreign soldiers and a number of Afghan civilians.

The NATO and U.S. forces completed their combat mission in Afghanistan by the end of 2014, after 13 years of military presence in the country.

Currently, around 13,000 foreign troops remain in Afghanistan to train and assist local security forces in their fight against the Taliban and other militants.
