SYDNEY, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Sydney's International Convention Centre (ICC) in Australia announced on Monday that they're making a push to lure the globe's biggest players by investing heavily in virtual reality (VR) technology.

After an extensive three-month development process partnered by Tourism Australia, the ICC has launched a VR app to allows potential clients to view a series of videos and stills that showcased in the venue.

For its major event holders, it has also sent 250 VR headsets around the globe.

"One of our key drivers is to win and hold international events at the venue," ICC director of corporate affairs Samantha Glass told Xinhua.

"Obviously if you are an international association based over in Belgium, Dallas or Beijing, you can't just pop down and have a look at the venue and do a site tour."

"The technology also enables clients to plan an event once they have booked the venue."

Since its grand re-opening in nine months ago, the 1.5 billion Australian dollar (1.21 billion U.S. dollars) facility has held over 500 events and the 35,000 square metre exhibition hall hopes to reach 1000 by the end of 2019.

In terms of revenue, the ICC estimates they will contribute 5 billion Australian dollars (4.02 million U.S. dollars) to the State of New South Wales' economy over the first 25 years.

Coming up in October, the center plans to use its facilities to connect local Australian technology developers with visiting delegates.

"We have a workshop with different members of the startup industry and levels and government to finalize the details, but we believe Sydney has a role to play to facilitate a global culture of innovation," Glass said.
