Vilnius marathon features over 15,000 runners

VILNIUS, Sept. 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 15,000 runners from over 60 countries competed in Danske Bank Vilnius Marathon 2017 in Vilnius, capital city of Lithuania on Sunday.

Dzmitry Hryhoryeu from Belarus won the first place of full marathon with a time of 2 hours 23 minutes and 21 seconds and Sergii Marchuk from Ukraine became the champion of half marathon with 1 hour 12 minutes and 41 seconds.

According to the organizers, Vilnius Marathon 2017 features 200 meters "Beactive Children Run" for children from 2 years old group to 9-12 years old group, 10Km run, 4.2km run for family and "Corny Students' Run" for students. The tracks of the event is situated at the heart of Vilnius, the old town.

"Today, I joined the event not for competing, but for participating. I want to set an example for my employees. I want everybody to participate, so I should participate as well. I want them to run daily for health," said Ruta, an executive from Danske Bank in Vilnius.

Launched first in 1990 with the aim of fostering a healthy lifestyle, Vilnius Marathon has already become an important international sports event in this region and a new festival to the city's calendar of events.
