JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- As many as 18 Islamic State (IS) militants have been killed and seven others wounded following a foreign forces' air-raid in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, the provincial government office said in a statement Saturday.

"Foreign forces launched airstrikes on the IS militants' hideouts in Loy Payen, Gagra, Langari Kando, Shagha and Miababa areas of the still restive Hasaka Mina district over the past 24 hours, leaving 18 IS fighters dead and seven others wounded," the statement said.

Some light and heavy arms and ammunition belonging to the IS fighters have also been destroyed in the raids, it added.

Elsewhere, in Barbahar Miagan area of Khogyani district of the province, a hand-grenade went off among the Taliban insurgents, killing at least one militant and injuring another, according to the statement.

The IS group has not so far commented on the report nor confirmed the casualties.

The mountainous province has been the scene of heavy clashes between security forces and IS militants since the emergence of IS there in early 2015.
