According to the police, the drugs were destined for Portugal and this was the biggest drug bust so far at the Galeao International Airport.

The arrests were made after a routine check in the airport's boarding area when police officers detected suspicious acts by an individual.

They noticed that a check-in official was showing signs of nervousness and found that luggages containing 60 km of cocaine were about to be loaded on a plane to Portugal.

An investigation soon found out that two employees of an airline were part of the scheme and were arrested.

The rest of the drugs were found in a storage area near the airport.

All the arrested were Brazilian nationals and will face charges of international drug trafficking, which may incur sentences of up to 25 years in prison.
