MOSCOW, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- One serviceman was killed and five others injured in an accident during military drills at a training ground in Russia's Leningrad region, Russian wires reported Thursday.
A projectile shot by a tank deviated from its trajectory and exploded in close proximity to a shelter housing six servicemen of a military engineering support team after touching the ground, RIA Novosti and Interfax news agencies reported, quoting a Western Military District statement.
All the injured have been hospitalized. Military investigators are working on the site of the accident.
The Western Military District is one of the four operational strategic commands of the Russian Armed Forces. The district includes the Leningrad region in northwestern Russia with its center in the country's second largest city of St. Petersburg.
