KUWAIT CITY, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Kuwait's Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah has expressed deep concerns over the violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar, local media reported Tuesday.

In a press statement to the Al-Jareeda newspaper, Al-Jarallah was deeply concerned about "the human rights violations" against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

Al-Jarallah said that Kuwait's position on the issue came within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), which condemned the outbreak of violence against the Rohingya.

Al-Jarallah also urged Myanmar to protect the rights of the Rohingya Muslim minority.

The UN said on Tuesday that 123,600 Rohingya Muslims had crossed into neighboring Bangladesh since violence erupted on August 25, when Myanmar's security forces launched an operation against the Rohingya community.
