ADDIS ABABA, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- The number of Ethiopians receiving medical services at health institutions has reached 75 million, up from 20 million a decade ago, the Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday.

The increase in health coverage is attributed to the installation of new health centers throughout the country, the ministry said.

According to the World Bank, Ethiopia's population stood at 102.4 million in 2016.

The number of health posts has increased from 10,000 in 2007 to over 16,000, health stations from 700 to 3,000, and hospitals from 93 to 311.

The ministry also reported a major increase in the number of medical service practitioners. The number of health extension workers has risen from over 24,000 to 38,000, nurses from over 16,000 to more than 60,000 and medical doctors from 2,000 over 6,700 in the past 10 years.
