TAIPEI, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Lai Ching-te, mayor of Taiwan's Tainan city, was appointed as the island's new executive head, according to the office of Tsai Ing-wen, Taiwan's current leader, Tuesday.
Lin Chuan, former head of Taiwan's executive authority, announced his resignation during a press conference Monday. Tsai accepted Lin's resignation, her office said in a statement later the day.
Due to Lin's resignation, the entire executive body is scheduled to resign Thursday, and Lai will take office Friday.
