Japan wins 2017 Word Championship mixed teams event

BUDAPEST, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Japanese judokas won the gold medal of the 2017 Suzuki World Championships mixed team event here on Sunday.

The Brazilians took silver, and two bronze medals were given to the South Korean and the French teams. The 5th place was awarded to Russia and Canada, whereas the 7th went to Germany and Georgia.

The teams were composed of three men and three women, from categories 73kg, 90kg and +90kg, and 57kg, 70kg and +70kg. In case of a draw, the team with the higher valued actions is the winner.

Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee watched the competition on site. The mixed team competition is going to be part of the 2020 Olympic Games of Tokyo.

Japan also took the first spot on the medal table with 8 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze, followed by France (2 gold, 2 bronze) and Brazil (1 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze). Mongolia came fourth (1 gold, 1 silver, 4 bronze), and China stood in 5th (1 gold) together with Germany (1 gold) and Serbia (1 gold).
