BUDAPEST, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Hungary stands firmly by Poland in its dispute with the European Union (EU), Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said here Thursday at a press conference.

"We firmly reject the use of double standards by the European Union against anyone, and regrettably we observe that the European Commission strongly uses a double standard against Poland," Szijjarto declared in front of journalists.

Szijjarto made the statement following a meeting of Visegrad Four countries -- Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia -- and states of the Eastern Partnership -- Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia and Moldova.

Poland has disagreed with EU institutions several times recently, notably on the issues of judiciary system reform, the logging of the Bialowieza forest, the migration crisis, and the European Commission's reform proposals on the posted workers directive.

"Instead of picking on some countries based on unfounded allegations, the EU should focus on perfecting its security situation, which has never been worse than it is now," he added.

"Hungary will never contribute to an EU measure aimed against Poland," he concluded.

At the end of July, the European Commission pressed ahead to the second stage of legal actions against the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland over refugee sharing for "non-compliance with their legal obligations on relocation." This move came a month and a half after the Commission launched infringement procedures.

If the countries still refuse to comply, they might face a financial penalty.
