KIEV, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian government said on Thursday it intends to promote learning of Chinese language in schools to meet the rising demand for Mandarin classes.

"There is a plan to expand Chinese language learning in Ukraine at all levels of secondary education -- in elementary, secondary and high schools," said a statement on the government website.

To better learn the methods of introduction of Chinese language in the school curricula, a delegation from Ukraine's Education Ministry has recently visited the Confucius Institute Headquarters in China, the statement said.

According to it, during the visit, the Chinese and Ukrainian education professionals have discussed a possibility of providing Ukraine with technical support and education materials for learning Mandarin in schools.

The sides have also discussed prospects of holding training courses for Ukrainian teachers on how to give lessons on the Chinese language efficiently

Currently, the popularity of Mandarin in Ukraine is rising, with private and public schools in nearly all Ukrainian big cities are offering Chinese language classes.
