BEIJING, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday held a telephone conversation with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian on the Korean Peninsula situation.

Wang reaffirmed China's principle stand of committing to the Korean Peninsula's denuclearization and opposing Pyongyang's ballistic missile launches.

China always strictly carries out related United Nations Security Council resolutions, playing a positive role in seeking a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, Wang said during his conversation at the invitation of Le Drian.

Meanwhile, Wang called on the other parties concerned to jointly work to ease tensions on the Korean Peninsula and break the current vicious cycle of rising tensions as soon as possible.

During the conversation, Le Drian expressed France's concern about Pyongyang's recent ballistic missile launches.

He said France supports strengthened efforts by the international community to push forward the denuclearization process on the Korean Peninsula.

The French foreign minister noted that his country supports China's continued role in solving the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and firmly rejects the criticism that China fails to fulfil its responsibilities.

France is willing to join China in its efforts to move toward a peaceful solution to the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, he added.
