BRUSSELS, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- NATO on Tuesday said in a statement that its four multinational battlegroups in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are now "fully operational."
The statement said this comes after the Canadian-led battlegroup based in Latvia became the fourth to complete its certification exercise.
At Warsaw Summit in 2016, NATO nations decided to have four multinational battalions stationed in the Baltic states and Poland from early 2017.
NATO has increased its presence in the eastern part of the Alliance in light of the Ukraine crisis.
Now four multinational battlegroups totaling approximately 4,500 troops have deployed in the Baltic nations and Poland, with Canada, Germany, Britain and the United States each leading a battalion.
