KIEV, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- Capital investment in Ukraine was up 22.5 percent year-on-year in the first half of 2017, reaching 6.08 billion U.S. dollars, according to a government report on Tuesday.

Private capital from companies and organizations were the major source of the investment, accounting for 74.3 percent of the total volume, said the report prepared by the State Statistics Service.

The state and local budgets contributed 6.8 percent. Among other sources were private individuals, foreign investors and bank loans, the report said.

The funds were largely spent by enterprises to buy machinery, equipment and vehicles, it said.

Ukraine's chemical, wood-pulp and paper, as well as arts, sports and entertainment industries saw the sharpest increase in investment inflow during the period from January to June this year.

In 2016, capital investment in the east European country increased by 18 percent compared with a year before, to a total of 12.8 billion dollars.
