BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- A draft revision to the Standardization Law highlighted the supporting role of standards in facilitating industrial upgrades and economic restructuring.

The draft revision was given a second reading at the bimonthly session of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, which opened Monday.

It called on the central government to promote the application of standards to increasing innovation.

The draft also stated the country's support for making company standards and group standards in key industries, such as strategic new industries and shared technologies.

Both company and group standards are voluntary standards in China.

The government should promote the integration between military and civilian standards, as well as transforming advanced military standards into civilian fields, according to the draft.

The current Standardization Law came into force in 1989.
