CAIRO, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday directed his government to prepare a report on all efforts exerted to combat terrorism and extremist thoughts, official MENA news agency reported.

Sisi's remarks came during a meeting with Egyptian prime minister and and a number of ministers in Cairo.

President Sisi also urged for reviewing previous studies conducted by the various ministries in order to send them to the Supreme Council to Combat Terrorism and Extremism to help the newly-formed body set a comprehensive national strategy to combat terrorism and extremism.

The meeting addressed the role of the state's executive bodies in support of the national council, MENA quoted spokesman for Egyptian Presidency Alaa Youssef as saying.

The meeting also covered current Arab and international terrorism-combat efforts, Youssef said.

Egypt has been fighting against a wave of terror activities that killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers since the military toppled former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests against his one-year rule and his Brotherhood group.

Terror attacks in Egypt used to be centered in North Sinai before spreading nationwide, with most of them claimed by a Sinai-based group loyal to the regional Islamic State militant group.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian military and police have killed hundreds of militants and arrested a similar number of suspects as part of the country's anti-terror war declared by Sisi, following Morsi's removal.
