BELGRADE, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Serbia and Macedonia will settle all issues between them, maintain friendly relations, expand economic cooperation and trade, protect rights of its embassies, and intensify high-level communication, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev agreed on Wednesday.

The two leaders issued a joint press release after a phone conversation intended to clarify Sunday's decision of Serbia to recall its ambassador and embassy staff from Skopje, capital of Macedonia.

After the abrupt withdrawal of staff, Serbia accused Macedonia of "offensive intelligence actions against Serbia and its institutions".

According to the release published by the cabinet of Serbian president, Vucic and Zaev "had a long and open conversation in which they discussed all new circumstances in relations between the two countries".

The release cites five points of agreement between Vucic and Zaev, including that the two countries "adhering to international laws and in good faith and on friendly basis will protect rights and interests of its diplomatic and consular offices on respective territories".

Besides that, the five points also include "resolving any disputes exclusively through dialogue", and fighting to maintain friendly relations "despite different opinions over important political and regional issues".

Other points of agreement are to boost economic cooperation and trade as well as to "intensify mutual communication, support each other on the European Union (EU) path, strengthen good neighborhood relations and to contribute to the stability of the region".

However, the release did not provide answer to the reasons behind the withdrawal of embassy staff.
