BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Brunei is currently not experiencing any outbreak of flu and the Ministry of Health (MoH) has not found an increase in the number of cases compared to what is normally expected during this time of the year, local media reported Wednesday.

Local media quoted Dr. Justin Wong, medical superintendent of public health of the Ministry, as saying during a press conference on Tuesday.

He also debunked social media rumors that a bad strain of cold is spreading in Brunei.

However, many other viruses can cause an illness similar to flu. It is often difficult to say exactly which virus is causing the illness, so doctors often diagnose an influenza-like illness (ILI).

"The MoH routinely collects data on the number of individuals with ILI in the country. At present, there is no evidence to suggest that the number of individuals with ILI in Brunei is greater than what is expected," he said.
