Angola through to quarters of women's Afrobasket after beating Cote d'Ivoire

LUANDA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- Point guard Italee Lucas scored 29 points and inspired Angola to beat Group A rivals Cote d'Ivoire 70-62 and make through to the quarterfinals of the women's African Cup of Nations (FIBA Women's Afrobasket 2017) in Bamako, Mali on Tuesday.

With this result, Angola remained unbeaten in the competitions and topped the group with eight points, followed by Mali on seven points.

Cameroon and Cote d'Ivoire amassed six each, Tunisia had five, while Central African Republic (CAR) sat at the bottom with four points.

In Group B, Nigeria and Senegal co-led the table with eight points each, Egypt and Mozambique had six, while the DR Congo (4) and Guinea Conacry (4) occupied the last two positions.

According to the regulations, top four finishers in each group qualify for the quarterfinals. Angola, Egypt, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria and Senegal have secured their places for last eight ahead of schedule.

On Wednesday, the last competitive day of the group stage, Angola will face CAR in Bamako.
