KAMPALA, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- A team of 127 Ugandan military officers on Tuesday departed for Burundi to participate in the East African Community (EAC) Military Games.
Joint Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Joseph Musanyufu told Xinhua that the military games and cultural events are part of annual activities under the Protocol on Cooperation in Defense among the EAC states.
The EAC brings together six member states -- Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Kenya and South Sudan.
Musanyufu says the Games are also geared towards promoting integration through sports and culture.
The Ugandan men and women will participate in football, netball, handball, basketball and cross-country competitions.
The Games and relavent cultural events have been held on a rotational basis since 2005 when the inaugural event was held in Uganda.
