CHITWAN, Nepal, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A group of Chinese photographers on Monday distributed relief materials to the flood victims of Nepal.

A team comprising 19 photographers distributed the relief items at a ceremony organized in Banshi village near the tourist hub Sauraha in Chitwan district, some 165 km away from the capital.

The floods triggered by incessant rainfall across Nepal killed more than 100 people in the second week of August while thousands of families were displaced in over a dozen plain districts including Chitwan.

Sauraha, the third most popular tourism destination in the Himalayan country, was also inundated in floods, resulting in huge damage to local hotel business.

The Chinese group, which is on a one-week trip to Nepal, provided clothes, tents and food items to some 100 locals in cooperation with the Nepali organization Sino-Nepal Media Society.

Through the assistance, the group aims to help support the livelihood of flood-affected people and local education.

Sino-Nepal Media Society expressed thanks to the group for their relief assistance. "Their visit has also provided some relief to the hotel entrepreneurs of Chitwan, who recently resumed their operation," an official from the society said.

Locals of Banshi village said this is the first assistance they received after the recent floods.
