SINGAPORE, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said on Monday that the search and rescue efforts for missing U.S. sailors will continue through the night after a collision earlier in the day.

The authority said the vessels of Singapore's Navy and Police Coast Guard were still underway to locate the 10 sailors of the U.S. guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain, which collided with the Liberian-flagged merchant vessel Alnic MC off Singapore Monday morning.

According to the MPA, various Singapore agencies deployed some 250 personnel in total for the search and rescue operations.

The MPA said USS John S McCain is currently berthed at Changi Naval Base and Alnic MC is now at Singapore's eastern anchorage for inspections.
