PHNOM PENH, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- A total of 103,112 Cambodian applicants on Monday took the national high school graduation exam, a prerequisite for the students to pursue their studies in university levels.
Over the course of two days, the candidates will sit for the test in the subjects of geography, history, biology, foreign language, Khmer literature, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and moral-civic education, according to an Education Ministry's statement.
There are 178 exam centers with 4,155 classes across the country.
Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron said crib sheets, cell phones, smart phones, and other electronic devices would not be allowed to be taken into the exam rooms, and anyone found cheated would be automatically failed the test.
"We have closely cooperated with the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) to prevent cheating and bribery during the exam," he told reporters while visiting an exam center in Phnom Penh on Monday.
ACU's chairman Om Yentieng said last week that about 4,500 anti-corruption officials and volunteers would be deployed for the exam.
The results of the exam will be publicized on Sept. 12 and 13.
Cambodia has begun to strengthen high school quality since 2014 through cleaning up cheat and bribery during the Grade 12 high school exam.
In last year's test, 55,753, or 62.18 percent, out of 89,661 applicants passed the annual exam.
