DHAKA -- A special tribunal in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka has handed death penalty to 10 people for planting a 76-kg bomb in 2000 with a view to assassinating the then opposition leader and incumbent Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Dhaka's Special Trial Tribunal-2 Judge Momtaz Begum on Sunday handed down the verdict in presence of the several accused, who are members of a local banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HUJI). (Bangladesh-Assassination plot)

KABUL -- Afghans observed their country's 98th Independence Day anniversary throughout the insurgency-plagued country amid tight security on Saturday.

PHNOM PENH -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen held a get-together ceremony with about 4,270 garment and shoe factory workers here on Sunday, marking his start of weekly campaign to meet workers in the industry across the kingdom.

KABUL -- Up to 115 armed militants were killed and 105 others wounded during operations launched by the Afghan security forces within a day, said the country's Defense Ministry on Sunday.
"The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces conducted 20 clean up operations, 22 special operations and two night raid operations in 13 of the 34 Afghan provinces over the past 24 hours.
