French railway station evacuated after reports of armed individuals

PARIS, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- A railway station in Nimes, southern France, was evacuated Saturday evening after a witness reported one or more armed individuals.

Local media Info Midi Libre says the police have held one man and are searching for the others.

Earlier media reports said shootings were heard around the railway.

The prefet of Gard, however, confirmed on its Twitter account that there's no shooting in Nimes railway station.

But it asked people to stay clear of the area for the ongoing verification operation.
