Zimbabwe declares Mugabe's birthday a public holiday

HARARE, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Zimbabwean government has declared February 21, the birthday of President Robert Mugabe, a public holiday in honor of his values and principles, state television reported Friday.

President Mugabe was born on February 21 in 1924 and over the years, youths in his party organize a lavish birthday celebration in his honor under the banner of the 21st February Movement.

Home Affairs Minister Ignatius Chombo said the day will be called Robert Gabriel Mugabe National Youth Day.
