Kenya's bourse stocks end week on losing streak

NAIROBI, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) 20 Share Index declined 55 points on Friday, falling the below the 4,000 mark after hitting a high of 4,114.01 Tuesday.

The index closed the day at 3,992.76 as stock prices of key stocks sustained a downward trend in a session when local investors traded as much as the foreigners.

Turnover, however, rose to hit 6.9 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 30 million shares from 24 million worth 5.6 million dollars.

Among the stocks whose prices declined pulling down the market were East African Breweries Ltd, Cooperative Bank, Barclays Bank and KenolKobil.

KenolKobil, a regional oil marketer, was the top traded stock after moving 10 million shares at a declined price of 0.15 dollars, a 6 percent drop.

Safaricom, Kenya's leading telecom was the second top traded stock after moving 4.5 million shares at unchanged price of 0.24 dollars. Enditem
