NEW DELHI, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- A worker was killed and 13 others injured when an under-construction roof of an indoor stadium collapsed Friday on the outskirts of Indian capital city New Delhi, officials said.
The roof collapsed at Mayoor school sector in Noida area.
"Over two dozen workers were busy in concrete roof casting at the stadium when steel pillars bent down and the entire roof collapsed," a police official said.
"Fourteen workers were pulled out in injured condition and one of them was declared dead."
Local authorities have ordered a magisterial probe into the matter.
Deadly accidents due to failing infrastructure, either new or old, is common in India.
Construction experts blame the lax administration and corruption for flouting building rules, which often results in using poor quality materials, inadequate supervision and poor safety standards for workers.
