JAKARTA, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) -- The Karate Association of Indonesia has forecast its athletes will exceed the target it has made in the 29th SEA Games this month in Malaysia, a senior official of the association said here on Friday.

The association has set a two-gold medal target for the Indonesian karate athletes vying in the regional sport event, retired major general Lumban Sianipar, secretary of the association said.

The target was set up following the victory of its karate athletes in the recent South East Asia Karate Federation (SEAKF) championship which was held in May in Central Java province of Indonesia, he cited.

The tournament was participated by 266 karate athletes from seven Asian member countries.

"I am upbeat over achievement of more-than-two gold medal target. Because the athletes who will vie in the SEA Games are those who took parts in the SEAKF championship," said Sianipar.

The gold medal targets were expected to be secured from kumite sport, according to manager of Indonesian team Zulkarnain Purba, who is also chairman of sport development of the association.

Karate sport is scheduled to be played from August 22 to 24 in Kuala Lumpur Convention Center, and Indonesia has sent 20 athletes to vie in the sport.

The 29th SEA Games is to be held in Kuala Lumpur of Malaysia from August 19 to 31.
