LAGOS, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- At least six Nigerian wrestlers are set to represent the country at the 2017 World Wrestling Championships in Paris set for August 20-28, according to an official with the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF).
Daniel Igali, President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NAWF) told reporters in the southern city of Yenagoa that the wrestlers consisted of four females and two males, to be accompanied by two coaches.
He expressed confidence that the team would perform well in the Championships, noting that two of the wrestlers are two-time African Champions: Amas Daniel, weighing in at 65kg and John Emmanuel at 70kg in the male category.
Blessing Oborududu, 63kg, the 2014 World Bronze medalist, Adekuroye Odunayo, 53kg, the current African champion, Mercy Genesis, 48kg, and 2014 Commonwealth gold medalist, Aminat Adeniyi, 58kg will represent Nigeria in the female category.
"The team is in a very high spirit and I am optimistic that they will deliver," the president added.
