PHNOM PENH, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said Wednesday that the country would establish a new intervention brigade and a naval station in northern Stung Treng province bordering Laos.
"All preparation does not intend to wage war with the neighboring country, but aims at defending the nation and people and increasing good relations with the neighboring country," he wrote on his official Facebook page while flying by helicopter to Stung Treng province for a troop visit.
Border dispute between Cambodia and Laos began in April when Cambodia accused Laos of sending about 30 soldiers to occupy the areas of O Alay and O Ta Ngav in Stung Treng province bordering Laos' Attapu province; however, all Lao soldiers pulled back from the areas on Saturday afternoon, hours after an urgent meeting between Hun Sen and Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith in Vientiane.
Cambodia shares about 540 km of border with Laos to the north and northeast. To date, the two neighbors have achieved 86 percent of the border demarcation.
