GAZA, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- A senior Hamas official denied on Friday a recent report that said the movement aimed to leave a political vacuum in the Gaza Strip, the enclave that the Islamic movement rules since 2007.

On Thursday, Turkish news agency Anadolu quoted a senior source in Hamas armed wing, al-Qassam Brigades, saying that Hamas considered replacing its civilian rule in the Gaza Strip with military rule in its stead.

The plan, according to the report, calls for creating a status of political and security vacuum in the Gaza Strip that keeps all options and all doors open.

Salah al-Bardaweel, one of Hamas politburo members, said in a press statement in Gaza that the plans and ideas mentioned in the report were fake and unrealistic, adding that Hamas "does not know, or has not been briefed or informed as a political leadership on such ideas or plans."

"Hamas will never leave any vacuum in Gaza. It could be ideas coming from people who felt daily life in Gaza is so hard and unbearable, however, Hamas does not agree on this plan," said al-Bardaweel.
