CAIRO, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- A policeman and a conscript were killed and another conscript was wounded on Thursday as an explosive device remotely blew up their armored vehicle in Rafah city of North Sinai province bordering Israel and the Palestinian Gaza Strip, security sources and medics told Xinhua.

"The bodies and the wounded conscript have been taken to nearby Arish hospital while the security forces are combing the area in search for the perpetrators," said the security source, noting the ages of the officer and the two conscripts varied between 20 and 28.

The attack came one day after four policemen were killed in a militant attack on their private vehicle on the way to Arish city of North Sinai.

Egypt has been battling against a wave of terrorist attacks since the military removed former Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013 in response to mass protests and the country blacklisted his Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization.

Later security crackdown on Morsi's loyalists left several hundreds dead and thousands more arrested.

Anti-government attacks since then killed hundreds of policemen and soldiers and recently dozens from the Coptic minority, with most of the attacks claimed by a Sinai-based group loyal to the Islamic State regional group.

Meanwhile, security campaigns killed several hundreds of militants and arrested a similar number of suspects as part of Egypt's anti-terror war declared by President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, the army chief then, following Morsi's ouster. Enditem
