KHARTOUM, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. has lifted a ban it previously imposed on a sum of money belonging to Sudan's Embassy in the South Korean capital Seoul, a finance ministry official said on Wednesday.

"This is a positive move which indicates the progress in the financial relations between Sudan and the external world," said Abdul-Rahman Dirar, Sudan's State Minister for Finance and Economic Planning, in a statement Wednesday.

He explained that the sum belongs to the Commercial and Economic Center, an affiliate of Sudan's Embassy in Seoul, and that it was transferred from DAEWOO Company to the center and was banned two years ago.

The Sudanese official expressed hope that the U.S would permanently lift its economic sanctions on Sudan.

Last July Sudan's finance ministry announced that it received a letter from the U.S. Treasury Department indicating full resumption of financial transactions between Sudan and the international banks.

Sudan's frozen assets in America are estimated at around one million U.S. dollars.

Former U.S. President Barack Obama issued a decision on Jan. 13 to cancel two executive orders imposing economic sanctions on Sudan.

The U.S administration was scheduled to review permanent lifting of sanctions on Sudan on last July 12, but Trump issued a new executive order extending the review period by three months to decide whether to permanently lift trade sanctions against Sudan.
