Zambia names team to face South Africa in African Nations Championship qualifier

LUSAKA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Head coach of the Zambia national soccer team Wedson Nyirenda on Tuesday named a 20-man squad that will face South Africa in the first leg of the last qualifying matches of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) to be played on Sunday, August 12.

The coach announced the players to face Bafana Bafana away in South Africa in a statement released by the country's soccer governing body.

The Chipolopolo beat Swaziland 7-0 on aggregate last month in the first round qualifiers to book a match against South Africa.

The team is expected to leave for South Africa on Thursday, August 10. The CHAN tournament is meant for players in local domestic leagues.

Goalkeepers: Allan Chibwe (Power Dynamos), Toaster Nsabata (Zanaco).

Defenders: Isaac Shamujompa (Power Dynamos), Donashano Malama (Nkana), Simon Silwimba, Fackson Kapumbu (Zesco), Boston Muchindu, Moses Nyondo (Nkana), Ziyo Tembo (Zanaco), Adrian Chama (Green Buffaloes).

Midfielders: Godfrey Ngwenya (Power Dynamos), Jack Chirwa, Mike Katiba (Green Buffaloes), Collins Sikombe (Napsa), Augustine Mulenga (Zanaco), John Ching' andu (Zesco).

Strikers: Justin Shonga (Nkwazi), Ernest Mbewe (Zanaco), Martin Phiri, Alex Ng' onga (Power Dynamos).
