SKOPJE, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The largest opposition party in Macedonia, VMRO-DPMNE, called for a motion of no-confidence on Monday against Macedonia's Agriculture Minister Ljupco Nikolovski.

According to the opposition party, the minister had failed to properly manage the current fires situation.

"We have huge areas of land caught up in open fires, causing tremendous damage to environment and public, private property, putting homes and lives in danger," VMRO-DPMNE official Zoran Ilioski said at a press conference.

He claimed that Nikolovski had allowed the situation to escalate while he accused the current government of leaving firefighting teams on their own in their battle with fires.

Another reason why VMRO-DPMNE sought a no-confidence vote against Nikolovski was related to the failure to organize the sale of staple seasonal products such as watermelons and peaches. Enditem
