KAMPALA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Rwandese nationals living in Uganda on Thursday turned up in big numbers to cast their ballots in the early presidential polls to elect the country's president for the next seven years.

Hundreds of Rwandan citizens from different places queued at the Rwandan High Commission in the capital, Kampala, the only designated polling station in Uganda to cast their ballots.

Frank Mugambage, the Rwandan High Commissioner to Uganda, told reporters here that all eligible Rwandans abroad vote a day ahead of the country's presidential elections slated for Friday.

The ballots will be counted on Friday at Rwandese embassy.

At least 7,000 Rwandan registered voters living in different parts of Uganda were expected to cast their votes to choose the country's next president in a three-man race.

At least 7 million voters are registered to cast their ballots in the third elections since the 1994 Rwandan genocide.

Incumbent President Paul Kagame of the ruling Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) is facing off with Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda and independent candidate, Phillipe Mpayimana.

Kagame is expected to win with a landslide victory to rule the east African country for the third seven-year term.

After the Friday's presidential polls, Rwanda will switch from seven to a five-year term following a recent referendum.
