ZAGREB, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- Croatia Airlines has successfully avoided a planned strike amid tourist high season after it reached an agreement with union members, Croatian news agency HINA reported on Thursday.
At a meeting in the Ministry of the Sea, Transport, and Infrastructure on Thursday, Croatia Airlines president and CEO Kreismir Kucko reached an agreement with union members regarding issues including pay rise.
It was concluded that the planned strike on Aug. 8 will not take place and negotiations on a new collective agreement will continue on Sept. 1.
Future negotiations about new collective agreement will include representatives of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure.
Union members of pilots, stewardess and airplanes' mechanics are asking for a pay rise and better regulation of working hours. Their collective agreement expired at the end of last year.
As a pillar industry to Croatia's economy, tourism contributes to nearly one fifth of the country's GDP last year.
The southeastern European country by the Adriatic Sea has seen record numbers of passenger inflow in major airports in Zagreb, Split and Dubrovnik this year.
