ANKARA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- A French national has been arrested by Turkish border guards for allegedly assisting a terror organization, the Anadolu Agency reported Wednesday.

The man was arrested on July 26 at the Habur border crossing near the Turkish city of Silopi while crossing from Iraq to Turkey, a Turkish security official was quoted as saying.

The French citizen, identified as Laup Jean Rene Bureau, was detained by Turkish border guards who found images showing him together with members of the Syria-based Democratic Unity Party (PYD), which is designated by Turkey as a terror group aligned to the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).

A video entitled "List of weapon distribution" was also discovered among the man's possessions, it said.

His Twitter account revealed him to be a young journalism student based in Cairo, Egypt and Brussels, Belgium, who has worked with French, German and English language media outlets, the report added.
