NAIROBI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's health ministry said Wednesday it has secured 335.63 million U.S. dollars from the Global Fund for HIV, TB and Malaria after its technical review panel has approved the government funding request.
The ministry said in a statement the funding application was found to be technically sound and strategically focused.
"The panel also recommended that Kenya proceeds with the grant making process," the ministry said.
Health Principal Secretary Julius Korir commended the Kenya Country team which was involved in the fund application and proposal writing process for a job well done.
He also assured Kenyans benefiting from services supported by the Global fund grants that access to services and supplies will not be interrupted by the electioneering process.
According to the ministry, between 2003 and 2016 the Global Fund has signed 16 grants worth 896 million dollars with Kenya.
Through the Global Fund and other partners close to 1.1 million persons living with HIV are on life saving drugs, over 13.6 million nets have been distributed and over 800,000 patients have been diagnosed and treated for TB, and another 600,000 have been put on isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) for TB, it said.
It said diagnosis and Treatment for HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria have also been provided at no cost.
