ABUJA, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- Terror group Boko Haram has killed six in an early morning attack on a village in Nigeria's northeast region, a government spokesman said on Wednesday.

While resisting the attack, local hunters of Midlu Village in Madagali area of the northeastern state of Adamawa killed one of the Boko Haram fighters, Ahmad Sajoh, the commissioner for information and strategy in the state, told Xinhua.

A combined effort of soldiers and hunters dislodged the attackers from the village, Sajoh said.

Another local official said the attack had caused most residents to flee the village, which also hosts the Sukur Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was destroyed three years ago by Boko Haram.

The terror group is blamed for the deaths of more than 20,000 people and displacing of 2.3 million others in Nigeria since their attacks started in 2009.
