NEW DELHI, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) -- India's main opposition Congress party Wednesday accused ruling Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) of creating fear among lawmakers from India's western state of Gujarat by conducting raids on them using income tax officials.

The protests from Congress party forced repeated adjournments in the upper house of the Indian parliament known as Rajya Sabha.

"No sooner the House met for routine business, opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said a Congress party minister in Karnataka state, who is coordinating with the visiting legislators in their stay, was raided and questioned," an official said.

Azad also alleged the BJP government was misusing its power.

Congress party has gathered its legislators from Gujarat in Bengaluru, alleging the BJP government threatens them and lures them with money for defection.

The party has kept 43 of its legislators from Gujarat in Bangalore to prevent defections ahead of crucial Rajya Sabha election.

The legislators were flown out of Gujarat last week following resignations from six senior lawmakers.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said income tax raids in Karnataka have nothing to do with Gujarat election.

The Congress party, however, questioned the timing of raid and accused BJP of terrorizing the people ahead of polls for the upper house.
