LONDON, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- British stocks rose on Tuesday, with the benchmark FTSE 100 Index up by 0.70 percent, or 51.66 points, to close at 7,423.66 points.
Rolls-Royce Holdings, a British pre-eminent engineering company, soared 10.25 percent, the top gainer of the blue chips. Intertek Group and Direct Line Insurance Group increased by 9.16 percent and 5.45 percent, respectively.
The multinational metal company Fresnillo was the worst performer in the blue chips, with its shares losing 2.60 percent. Mediclinic International, an international private hospital group, dropped 2.03 percent. AstraZeneca, a multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company, fell 1.73 percent. Enditem
