KAMPALA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Uganda's annual headline inflation rate for the year ending July declined to 5.7 percent from 6.4 percent recorded in June due to lower food prices, the country's statistics bureau said here on Tuesday.

Uganda Bureau of Statistics in a statement said the decline represents a 0.7 percentage point drop from the previous month because of increased food supply to the market.

"The drop in annual headline inflation was due to the decline in annual food crops inflation which is recorded at 12.9 percent for the year ending July 2017 compared to 18.1 percent for the year ended June 2017," said the Bureau.

The annual core inflation rate, which excludes food crops, fuel, electricity and metered water, also fell to 4.5 percent in July from 4.9 percent recorded in June.
