Hong Kong records 4.5 bln USD surplus for Q1, 2017/18

HONG KONG, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong recorded a surplus of 35.4 billion HK dollars (about 4.5 billion U.S. dollars) for the first quarter of 2017/18 fiscal year, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government said here on Monday.

A government spokesperson said the surplus was mainly due to the receipt of land premium.

According to the data, expenditure for the three months ending June 30 amounted to 110.5 billion HK dollars and revenue reached 145.9 billion HK dollars.

The fiscal reserves stood at 989.1 billion HK dollars as at June 30, 2017, according the data.
