Chinese invested mine's marathon gains popularity in Namibia

WINDHOEK, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The developers of the Husab Mine, Swakop Uranium will host the third edition of the Husab Marathon on Aug.5, at the coastal town of Swakopmund, in Namibia.

The organisers on Monday told Xinhua that close to 700 participants are expected to take part in the event, which will have the 5 km fun race, 10 km and 42 km category races.

Last year the event successfully hosted close to 360 runners and Kenyan long distance runner, Sammy Kipkoech Tum claimed the men's category in a time of 2:25:31, followed by Namibia's Simon Shipingana in a time of 2:26:30 with Paulus Vilho also from Namibia in third place, clocking 2:27:57.

Meanwhile, according to the organisers, as always the marathon will start at the turn off to the access road leading to the Husab mine, along a scenic route and is expected to be a fun event for the participants.

The event is both a competitive event and a community fun day, where families can enjoy a day out near the beautiful Namib Naukluft Park.
