ISLAMABAD, July 30 (Xinhua) -- At least six children were killed and 12 others injured when roof of a seminary collapsed in Pakistan's northwestern Karak district on Sunday morning, local Urdu media reported.

Dunya News said the death toll may further rise as several kids are still feared to be trapped inside the debris.

The seminary which collapsed is located in Ali Khel area of Karak, the district in the country's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province.

The collapse happened due to accumulation of rain water at the roof of the seminary that gradually seeped into its foundation.

The injured kids were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Rescue teams and local people reached the incident site to recover the trapped from the rubbles.

Local meteorological office said the heavy spell of the monsoon rain, which has been lashing various parts of the country including KPK since end of June, is likely to continue for the next few days.

The National Disaster Management Authority said last Sunday that 90 people had been killed and 117 others injured due to heavy rains in the country since Wednesday.
