ALGIERS, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Algeria said on Friday that the implementation of a peace agreement for Mali depends on the will of the signatory parties, who are urged to rebuild bridges of trust and lasting dialogue.

Algerian Foreign Minister Abdelkader Messahel made the remarks after talks with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General to Mali, Head of the Minusma Mission, Mahamat Saleh Annadif.

The implementation of the peace agreement, which was brokered by Algeria and signed in Malian capital Bamako, depends on the signatory parties, said Messahel, adding that "it is a Malian issue, as trust and permanent dialogue among the warrant parties should be established."

The Algerian diplomat added that his meeting with the UN official was an opportunity to assess the situation in Mali and discuss ways to boost the implementation of peace process based on the agreement.

He noted that the situation in Mali remains "difficult and complex," adding that "Algeria has always responded to the call to accompany the Malian people in their efforts to maintain their unity and sovereignty."

Meanwhile, Annadif hailed the "positive" role of Algeria in terms of restoring peace and stability in Mali through the multiple mediation initiatives it has led.

He regretted, however, that "the implementation of the peace agreement has recently been stalled" over disputes between the signatory parties, while affecting the situation in the region as a whole.

Annadif arrived on Friday in Algeria for the 12th Algerian-Malian Bilateral Strategic Committee on northern Mali.

The meeting is meant to assess the progress of the implementation of the peace process in northern Mali. It is co-chaired by Messahel and his Malian counterpart Abdoulaye Diop.
