HANOI, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The victories of the Vietnamese people in the cause of struggling for national liberation and unification were closely attached with the immense support from the Chinese Communist Party, state, people and People's Liberation Army (PLA), a Vietnamese lieutenant general said at a reception here on Friday.

Lieutenant general Luong Cuong, Chief of the General Political Department of Vietnam People's Army, made the remarks at the 90th founding anniversary of the PLA held at the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam.

In the process of national development on the path of socialism, Vietnam and China have unceasingly made efforts to develop their relations in realistic and effective manner, constantly cementing and deepening the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, the lieutenant general said.

The friendship and comprehensive relations between the two armies, one of the important pillars of the relations between the two parties and states, will further develop, Cuong said.

Noting that the PLA is now entering a critical period of reforms, the Vietnamese general expressed his belief that the PLA will successfully fulfil its planned reforms, making more contribution to world peace, stability, and prosperous development.

Military Attache of the embassy, senior colonel Luo Bin said China and Vietnam have always paid high attention to bilateral military ties and worked together to enhance friendly exchanges and cooperation between the two armies.

The high-level border talk has been the bright spot of bilateral military relationship, which has strongly promoted the security, stability and socioeconomic development of the border area, and also brought about tangible benefits to the two peoples, he said.

The two armies have also conducted productive exchanges and cooperation in various fields, he said, expressing the hope that the relationship between the the two armies will continue to make important contribution to consolidating and developing traditional friendship between China and Vietnam.

Since 1990, China has dispatched more than 35,000 military personnel to UN peacekeeping missions. China is the biggest troop contributor among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, he said.

In the meantime, China has carried out defense exchanges, dialogues and cooperation with over 100 countries around the world, he added.
